Market and Streets

We visited the Mercat de la Boqueria or the Central Market in Barcelona. It was filled with fruits, vegetables, spices, fish, meat (including heads and insides) and food vendors. We heard it was a great place to eat lunch and we got sucked into an organic vegetarian vendor that sold falafel and paella. We spent way to much on our meals and they weren't even that good but the rest of the food look amazing. One thing about Barcelona that is nice for those of us who don't speak much Spanish, is most things are in English and almost everyone speaks English. This was not true the farther south we got, thanks to Kit who speaks enough Spanish to get around, otherwise we would have been lost. In addition, Barcelona is located in the province of Catalonia so they speak Catalan and Spanish.

Nuts galore!

The fruit looked amazing

Not only were they selling fresh fruit but fresh fruit smoothies that were fantastic. (as you can see behind Kit)

Fish

These lobsters were actually still moving

Spain is known for its cured meats, lots of ham and sausage, and they were everywhere

There are two great neighborhoods part of the historic area of Barcelona called the Gothic Quarter and El Raval. We spent hours wandering the streets and sight seeing. El Raval was our favorite and had the best restaurants and bars. We spent every night in Barcelona sitting outside at a cafe having a drink.

As you got further into the Gothic Quarter the streets got narrower and taller.
We got lost a couple of times in these small streets

The majority of the people in Barcelona drive scooters,
you'd have to if you lived in the Gothic Quarter.

One of the best things about walking around the small streets is walking into an open plaza and finding some great food or interesting sights like this statue with a shoe on it.
(Kit could not get over how funny he thought this was)

While wandering we came across this burrito restaurant which translated means:
'My Burrito and I'.
