3 Months, Landscapes, & Campervans

3 months! So tomorrow is the three year mark of our moving to New Zealand. It feels like it has been both shorter and longer than that in many ways. I think it is really beginning to feel like home, I'm settling in to work (this is kit), we're comfortable in the house, and finding more and more people to hang out with. The school year still doesn't start back until March so the town is still quiet but exploring the numerous restaurants, cafes, and pubs Dunedin has to offer is keeping us busy. The longer we are here the more it feels less like a foreign country and more as where we belong.

New Zealand is beautiful. Land and water completment each other here in amazing ways you would only see in a formerly active volcanic ridge. So far we've seen the roiling sea crash against cliffs in the south, mountain ringed glacier lakes in the Queenstown area, waterfalls cascading down green mountains right here in Dunedin, and stagnant glaciers on Mt. Aspiring. So much is largely untouched by civilization. Driving out of Dunedin things are rural within minutes and take on a feel of wilderness after only an hour. Luckily the landscapes are pristine which makes this a camper's paradise. People travel the South Island camping and tramping New Zealand's major tracks and national parks. You can pretty much camp anywhere, making campervans extremely popular. They vary from decked out fancy rigs to 30 year old neon green klunkers. We saw this van parked in Dunedin, too awesome to pass up. A Simpsons favorite!
