Flight of the Elams: Nick Visit Dublin

After spending some time in the UK, we flew over to Dublin for four days. Ireland is a place that Nick, Kit and I have always wanted to go. Nick and I have Irish hertiage and it was really special for us to go there. We loved Dublin, it was an beautiful city that was easy to get around in and has a fantastic music scene. Kit and I said we could live there.

We stayed across the river from the Temple Bar Area, which is an area of traditional irish bars and restaurants. It is a very touristy area but there is always Traditional Irish music playing at night in many of the bars which we loved!

it was a Wednesday night and was packed. We barely found seats for the three of us and most people were standing.

This is the Ha'Penny Bridge that we crossed every day to the Temple Bar area. It was the first iron bridge built in Ireland in 1816 and is called the Ha'Penny Bridge because it use to cost a half penny to cross. I didn't get a very good picture of it so go here if you want to see a better one. The architect for the bridge was the same person who designed the titanic.

On the first day we walked around Dublin to Trinity College, which is in the center of campus and is over 400 years old. It was a beautiful campus and you could feel the history in the buildings.

On our way to Trinity College we passed by the Bank of Ireland which was also an impressive building.

We went to see the book of Kells, which is the one of the earliest translations of the four gospels of the new testament. It was translated by celtic monks on the island of Iona off Scotland. If you want to read more about it go here.

We also got to visit the Old Library of Trinity College, which is an amazing place to visit. You aren't suppose to take pictures in there, but Kit snuck a dark picture in. The heads on the side are busts of famous authors and scientists. We also saw the oldest harp in Ireland there. It made me feel like I was in a movie when I was in this library.
